Chemin de Fer ABC’s – Part One
September 24th, 2010 by Kingston

The basic premise of the game is to be handed cards totaling up to twenty-one. Every gambler is given two cards. When a player is dealt a nine or less and an Ace they’ve been given a soft hand. When the gambler receives no Ace it is known as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been handed to every player at the blackjack table, including the dealer, each blackjack player is given the opportunity to make one of six actions:

Taking another card (Hit): When a black jack player says "hit me" the croupier will give them another card, if the adding of that card causes the value of the hand to exceed twenty one the gambler will have lost and be excluded from the game, if the card makes the value of the hand to twenty one the player is the winner and if the value of the hand has not yet achieved twenty one they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you have been given: If a blackjack player is happy with the hand they will stay. As soon as this has happened the croupier will disclose his or her hand and the gambler who has gotten 21 or the closet to twenty one will acquire a win.

Doubling Down: A blackjack player might request to double down which doubles the wager they have laid. As soon as you’ve taken this action you can only receive one additional card. The specifics of doubling down are often out lined by the table or betting house game rules so prior to betting be sure you’re familiar with the house rules. If you’re wagering at a web betting house this is normally very simple.

Stay tuned for part 2.
